Devastating Tragedy Strikes Atherton Family as 19-Year-Old Mellodie-Ocean Jarman Dies Shortly After Delivering Her Baby Prematurely at Royal Bolton Hospital

A Devastating Loss: A Mother’s Fight for Life and the Tragic Outcome

On February 2, 2025, a family experienced the unimaginable.

Mellodie-Ocean Jarman, a 19-year-old from Atherton, Greater Manchester, died just hours after giving birth to her baby girl, Athena-Pearl.

What started as a routine pregnancy scan spiraled into an overwhelming tragedy that left her partner, Daniel Darbyshire, and her family reeling from loss.

A Sudden Health Scare Leads to Emergency Measures

Mellodie, who had been a healthy first-time mother, started feeling faint and dizzy on her way to a routine pregnancy checkup on January 31.

At her appointment, a doctor advised her that she was “low on iron” after she mentioned her symptoms, and she was sent home with medication and antibiotics.

However, the following day, Mellodie’s condition worsened.

She began struggling to breathe and was having trouble seeing clearly.

Rushed to Royal Bolton Hospital, she lost consciousness during an intense attempt by paramedics to revive her.

A Heartbreaking Decision and Unthinkable Loss

Doctors performed an emergency C-section, delivering baby Athena-Pearl prematurely, seven weeks early, in the early hours of February 2.

Sadly, Mellodie passed away about an hour after the procedure.

The family was told that baby Athena-Pearl, too, was unlikely to survive.

After a heartbreaking ceremony, where they spoke with a priest and had Athena-Pearl baptized, Mellodie’s partner, Daniel, made the agonizing decision to say goodbye.

Daniel took his daughter in her pushchair back to the neonatal ward, spending precious moments with her before her passing just before 6:30 PM.

A Family Torn Apart by Tragedy

Steven Darby, Mellodie’s heartbroken uncle, shared how Daniel is struggling with the loss, feeling lost without the future he had planned with Mellodie and their baby.

“He’s lost everything,” Steven said, as the family tries to provide whatever support they can during this unimaginable time.

Unfortunately, the family now faces the financial burden of funeral costs, and Mellodie’s mother, Justine, has expressed her grief.

Remembering Mellodie: A Bright Spirit Taken Too Soon

Justine described her daughter as “sassy and upfront” with a strong sense of humor, always bringing joy to those around her.

Steven echoed this sentiment, remembering how Mellodie had been a healthy 19-year-old with no known health issues, leaving the family struggling to make sense of the events that led to this tragedy.

A Call for Help: A Fundraiser for the Family

In the face of overwhelming grief, the family has launched a fundraiser to help cover the funeral costs.

The emotional toll of dealing with both the loss and the expenses is daunting, so they’re asking for help.

As of now, nearly £6,000 has been raised to support the family in laying Mellodie and Athena-Pearl to rest.

On the GoFundMe page, Steven shared his plea: “Please help us lay our beloved girl and her precious baby daughter to rest.

This loss is beyond words, but we’re asking for support so we don’t have to carry the weight of financial burdens during this already overwhelming time.”

The family is asking for any contributions to ease their burden as they navigate this devastating chapter.

If you would like to support them, donations can be made through their GoFundMe page: GoFundMe link.
