Miguel Inacio Talks About the Intensity and Passion of His First Ever Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium Between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates

Miguel Inacio Reflects on His First Soweto Derby Experience

Kaizer Chiefs defender Miguel Inacio recently shared his thoughts on his first ever Soweto Derby, a highly anticipated and fierce clash in South African football.

For Inacio, the game was more than just a match — it was an unforgettable experience in the heart of one of Africa’s most thrilling football rivalries.

The Intensity of the Soweto Derby

The 29-year-old defender played a full 90 minutes in the game, which saw Chiefs face off against Orlando Pirates.

Despite his best efforts, the match ended in a 1-0 loss for Chiefs, with a late penalty by Patrick Maswanganyi securing the win for the Buccaneers at the FNB Stadium this past Saturday.

For Miguel, it was an incredible opportunity to be part of the derby atmosphere.

“It was amazing to finally experience the real derby of Africa,” he said.

“For me, it’s the biggest derby on the continent.” Although disappointed with the result, he expressed excitement about the experience, noting that as his first derby, he gave it his all to help the team.

A Solid Defensive Performance Despite the Loss

Miguel had a solid showing in defense alongside Rushwin Dortley.

Though Pirates controlled much of the match, they didn’t create too many scoring chances in the first half, something Miguel noticed.

Reflecting on the game, he said, “In the beginning, I was very happy, but by the end, I was disappointed with the result.”

The defender also mentioned the support he received from his network, including his friend Hugo Marques, who had previously played in South Africa.

“He gave me some great tips on how to stay calm during these types of games,” Miguel explained.

That advice helped him stay composed in the heat of the moment.

The Uniqueness of the Derby

What made the Soweto Derby even more special for Miguel was the overwhelming support from the fans.

“It’s not a normal game.

This was the first time I’ve played with so many supporters in the stands,” he said. “A lot of family members reached out to send me their love and encouragement to keep doing my best and help the team.

It was an incredible day.”

Despite the loss, Miguel will certainly carry the experience of his first Soweto Derby with him for years to come.

It’s clear that the passion and energy of the match made a lasting impact on him.
