Authorities in the United Kingdom Recall Pet Heating Pad and Cage Sold on Amazon Due to Serious Electric Shock and Burn Hazards

Pet owners in the UK are being urged to stop using a specific pet heating pad and cage combo that has been recalled due to serious safety concerns.

The product, known as the Pet Cage & Pet Heating Pad, was available on Amazon but has now been flagged by authorities for failing to meet essential safety standards.

Manufactured in China, this product is described as an incubator box for pets with an installed heating pad, but it has been deemed unsafe due to potential risks of electric shock, burns, and even choking hazards.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has officially rejected the item at the UK border, warning that it does not comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

Why Is This Product Dangerous?

According to OPSS reports, the product has several design flaws that put pets at risk:

  • Exposed Wires: The heating pad’s wires are easily accessible to pets, increasing the chance that they might chew through them and suffer an electric shock.
  • Unprotected Heating Radiators: The heating components are not properly covered, leaving hot surfaces exposed, which can cause burns to pets.
  • Choking and Internal Burn Risks: A temperature and humidity indicator included in the product presents a choking hazard. Additionally, the device contains a button cell battery, which, if ingested, could cause severe internal burns.

Official Warning from OPSS

In an official statement, the OPSS emphasized the serious risks associated with the product, particularly when pets are left unattended inside the cage.

The lack of proper instructions on keeping wires out of reach has been a major concern.

Pet owners who have already purchased this item are strongly advised to stop using it immediately and follow recall instructions provided by Amazon and the OPSS.

Another Recall: Lidl Pulls Unsafe Snacks from Shelves

In a separate recall, Lidl UK has also issued a warning about two popular snacks that could cause an unexpected and unpleasant reaction.

The 140g Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels, available in both milk chocolate and dark chocolate, have been recalled due to reports that they may cause a burning sensation in the mouth.

The affected products, identified by batch code number 8535 with a best-before date of 30 June 2025, were last sold on October 17, 2024.

Customers who purchased these items are advised not to eat them and instead return them to the nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

What Should You Do Next?

For those who purchased the Pet Cage & Pet Heating Pad, Amazon and the OPSS will provide recall instructions.

It’s crucial to stop using the product immediately to prevent harm to your pet.
