Sheffield United are closing in on signing Crystal Palace defender Rob Holding on loan for the remainder of the season

Sheffield United is reportedly close to finalizing a loan deal for Crystal Palace’s defender, Rob Holding, which will keep him at Bramall Lane until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has found himself out of favor at Palace and looks set to make the move in search of more playing time.

Limited Appearances and Disagreement at Palace

Since joining Crystal Palace from Arsenal for £4 million in September 2023, Holding has made just one appearance for the Eagles.

His season took a downturn after a disagreement with manager Oliver Glasner following Palace’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham in August.

Holding, who was an unused substitute during that match, questioned Glasner over the warm-down session for players not involved in the match.

The fallout led to Holding being instructed to train with the under-21s, and he hasn’t been involved with the first team since.

Glasner Stands Firm on Holding’s Future

Despite Palace’s current shortage of defensive options, manager Oliver Glasner has made it clear that Holding won’t return to first-team training.

Glasner confirmed last Friday that the decision was personal and not for public discussion.

He stated, “If there’s a club who wants to sign him and he wants to go there, there will be a solution.”

However, he emphasized that any potential transfer needs to involve the agreement of Holding, both clubs, and the player’s management.

Sheffield United Seeks Defensive Reinforcement

Sheffield United, under manager Chris Wilder, has been actively searching for a defender this month to strengthen their squad as they aim for a promotion push back to the Premier League.

Holding’s experience will be a valuable asset to the Blades as they look to solidify their defense during the second half of the Championship season.
