Cape Town announces planned water supply disruptions due to essential maintenance work beginning February 3 across multiple areas

The City of Cape Town has scheduled planned maintenance that will affect water supply across various areas starting on Tuesday, February 3, 2025.

These disruptions are necessary to carry out important infrastructure upgrades, including the installation, repair, and replacement of pipes and valves.

Water Supply Disruptions Across Multiple Areas

Several areas will experience temporary water shutoffs to allow for the installation of pressure-reducing valves (PRV) and other essential infrastructure work.

Here’s a breakdown of the scheduled disruptions:

  • Martinville, Benetownship, Roundby, and Kalamunda: Water will be shut off from 09:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, February 4.
  • This will allow the installation of a PRV on the main water supply line.
  • Parts of Salt River: These areas will also experience water interruptions on the same day, Tuesday, February 4, from 09:00 to 18:00.
  • Shelley Road to Cecil Road: This area, including Dryden Primary School and the surrounding streets, may also face disruptions.
  • A water tanker will be stationed at Dryden Street Primary School to assist affected residents.

Further Water Supply Interruptions in Maitland and Ndabeni

  • Maitland: Water will be shut off on Wednesday, February 5, from 09:00 to 17:00.
  • This could also cause pressure fluctuations in nearby areas like Ndabeni, Salt River, Paarden Eiland, Kensington, and Pinelands, as teams work to install another PRV.
  • Ndabeni: On Thursday, February 6, water supply will be interrupted in Ndabeni from 09:00 to 17:00.
  • There could also be fluctuations in pressure in surrounding areas like Maitland, Salt River, Paarden Eiland, and Kensington.
  • The work will involve the installation of a PRV, which was initially delayed due to further maintenance needs.

Strand Area to Experience Water Shutdown

  • Strand: Water supply will be completely shut off on Thursday, February 6, from 08:00 to 17:00 for essential valve installations.
  • This is part of the third and final phase of the ongoing pipe replacement project, which will affect the entire Strand area.

How to Prepare for Water Supply Interruptions

Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly for these temporary water disruptions.

It’s always a good idea to store water in advance, ensure your household is prepared, and be mindful of any changes to your routine during the maintenance period.
