A serious fire erupted at a synagogue in Salford, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Thick clouds of smoke were seen pouring out of the Satmar V’Yoel Moshe Orthodox synagogue located on Northumberland Street.
Fire engines quickly rushed to the scene as the flames spread.
Fire Breaks Out Early Evening
Police reported that the fire started around 5 p.m. today, with six fire engines being deployed to control the situation.
A representative from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service shared that firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, arrived promptly and are working to contain the fire using hoses.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police set up a cordon around the area for safety. Emergency crews are still on the scene, battling the blaze.
Potential Cause and Community Impact
Witnesses who were nearby mentioned that they noticed the fire around 45 minutes after it began.
The building is located on a residential street, and Friday holds particular significance for the Jewish community as it marks the start of the Sabbath.
Early reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, especially since it seems to have started in the building’s top-floor offices.
The situation is still developing, and more details are expected to emerge shortly.
