Good news for travelers and businesses! The Grobler’s Bridge Border Post between South Africa and Botswana is officially back up and running after a temporary closure due to severe flooding.
On Thursday, Dr. Michael Masiapato, Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), and officials from the South African Revenue Services (SARS) announced the resumption of full operations at the border post.
Temporary Closure Due to Flooding
Earlier this month, inclement weather caused severe flooding at the border post, which led to the suspension of services.
The flooding impacted vital infrastructure, making it unsafe for the movement of goods and people.
In response, the authorities conducted thorough safety assessments and worked quickly to restore the facilities.
Ensuring Safety and Smooth Operations
With operations now fully restored, the port is once again ready to facilitate trade and travel.
“The safety of all port users remains our top priority,” Dr. Masiapato stated, expressing gratitude for the public’s patience during the challenging period.
He also praised the efforts of the BMA, SARS, Grobler’s Bridge Port Management, border stakeholders, and the Botswana government for their swift response.
Minimizing Disruptions to Trade and Travel
Dr. Masiapato highlighted that the fast restoration of services underscores their commitment to minimizing disruptions, ensuring that both trade and travel can continue smoothly.
The reopening of Grobler’s Bridge is a positive step for both countries, especially given its significance in facilitating cross-border movement and commerce.
