LaLiga President Javier Tebas Vows to Continue Fighting Against Dani Olmo’s Registration Amid Barcelona’s Temporary Victory

Barcelona has been given a temporary lifeline in their bid to register Dani Olmo, but LaLiga President Javier Tebas remains firm in his opposition.
The 26-year-old Spain international, who was signed by Barcelona for £50million from RB Leipzig last summer, was initially only registered for the season until December due to LaLiga’s strict wage-cap regulations.

Olmo’s Registration Battle

The situation surrounding Olmo’s registration became increasingly complicated due to LaLiga’s financial controls, which put the player’s registration at risk.

If unregistered, Olmo faced the possibility of leaving for free, which would have been a significant loss for Barcelona.

After an appeal from Barcelona, the Higher Sports Council ruled earlier this month that Olmo could be temporarily registered along with Pau Victor.

This decision allowed both players to take the field for the remainder of the season, but with a catch—LaLiga has up to three months to review the case and issue a final decision.

Tebas Vows to Continue Legal Challenge

Despite this temporary ruling, Tebas has made it clear that LaLiga will continue to fight against the registration of Olmo.

Speaking to Marca, the LaLiga president stated, “We are against his registration. We are putting resources towards this.

If we believe that he should not be registered, we obviously believe that we have a chance that he will not be registered.”

This ongoing dispute highlights the tension between Barcelona’s financial strategy and LaLiga’s regulatory framework, with the Catalan club eager to solidify Olmo’s place in their squad for the long term.

Barcelona’s Plans for Second El Clasico Abroad

On a slightly more positive note for Barcelona, Tebas also addressed the club’s aspirations to host the second El Clasico of the season outside of Spain.

With the ongoing renovations to the Camp Nou, Barcelona has been forced to play their home matches at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

While Tebas confirmed that Barcelona has not made an official request to host the Real Madrid match abroad, he expressed openness to the idea.

He mentioned that the league has been exploring the possibility of holding LaLiga games in the USA and that the idea could gain traction, depending on the circumstances.

Uncertainty Over Camp Nou’s Reopening

Barcelona had initially hoped to unveil their newly-renovated Camp Nou to coincide with the club’s 125th anniversary on November 29.

However, delays to the stadium’s construction timeline have left the club in limbo, with no firm date for when they will return to their iconic home.

Tebas, however, made it clear that for any LaLiga game to be played abroad, approval from the opposing club, Real Madrid in this case, would be essential.

He emphasized that the situation would require cooperation between both clubs before anything could be finalized.

In the meantime, Barcelona continues to navigate their financial and logistical challenges while preparing for the remainder of the season, including the ongoing uncertainty about Olmo’s registration status and their potential El Clasico plans.
