Kimbal Musk, the younger brother of billionaire Elon Musk, has a new idea that could revolutionize the Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee celebrations.
Over the weekend, Musk met with the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, to present his concept for a stunning musical light show featuring drones.
Meeting with Rome’s Leaders
Dressed in his usual cowboy hat, Kimbal Musk sat down with Gualtieri at the Palazzo Senatorio on January 25 to pitch a drone-based show for the Catholic Church’s milestone event.
The plan involves using a fleet of drones to create a spectacular light display synchronized to music, and Musk envisions this as a privately funded event.
The following day, Musk met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi, where he was joined by Andrea Stroppa, Elon Musk’s representative in Italy, and Veronica Berti, the wife of famous tenor Andrea Bocelli.
During these meetings, Musk reportedly discussed his vision for the event in greater detail.
The Vatican’s Potential Involvement
Musk is also planning to present his idea to Archbishop Rino Fisichella, who heads the Vatican’s organization of the Jubilee.
According to reports from Italian media, this presentation will take place in the near future, and the Vatican’s involvement would mark a significant milestone for drone technology in religious and cultural celebrations.
Musk’s Expertise in Drone Shows
As a board member of Tesla and owner of Nova Sky Stories, Kimbal Musk brings considerable expertise to the table.
His company operates a fleet of 9,000 advanced drones capable of producing large-scale light displays.
Drone shows have become increasingly popular worldwide, with notable appearances at major events such as the Olympic Games, the Super Bowl halftime show, and international expos.
Rome’s Growing Interest in Drone Technology
Rome has already dipped its toes into drone technology.
In 2023, the city hosted its first-ever drone light show over the Colosseum, part of its bid to host the Expo 2030.
In addition, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti has expressed interest in incorporating such technology into religious events.
In 2022, St. Peter’s Basilica was illuminated with a 3-D projection mapping of art from the Vatican Museums, showcasing the potential for technology to blend with religious and cultural traditions.
This innovative idea from Kimbal Musk could bring a new dimension to the Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee, blending technology with tradition in a spectacular way.
