In a recent episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show,” the former Fox News host dropped a bombshell allegation: the United States, during Joe Biden’s presidency, attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This shocking statement came during a conversation with journalist Matt Taibbi, sparking immediate reactions across media and political circles.
Carlson, who previously traveled to Moscow for a rare interview with Putin, claimed, “[Former U.S. Secretary of State] Tony Blinken was pushing hard for a real war, trying to kill Putin… Yes, they did.
Which is insane.”
Though Carlson offered no concrete evidence, his claim set the stage for heated speculation about what might have happened if the alleged assassination attempt had succeeded.
Carlson Questions the Consequences
Carlson didn’t stop at the allegation.
He raised questions about the potential fallout of such an action, imagining the chaos that could ensue.
“If Putin was assassinated… who takes over Russia? What happens to the nuclear arsenal in a country so complex outsiders can’t even understand?” He called the idea “demented,” adding, “It’s insane to even think about something like that.”
Moscow Reacts: Pro-Putin Propaganda Seizes the Moment
Unsurprisingly, Carlson’s claim was swiftly picked up by Russian media and pro-Putin propagandists.
Sergei Mardan, a prominent Russian commentator, declared, “The Biden administration planned to kill Putin. That’s what Tucker Carlson says.”
Mardan further alleged that former Secretary of State Anthony Blinken played a significant role in pushing for this supposed plan.
“Blinken has always been a stubborn person, ready to fight to the last [Ukrainian] and even the penultimate American,” Mardan remarked, adding that the world might soon learn more “terrible revelations” about decision-making under the Biden administration.
Putin’s Perspective: U.S. Controlled by the CIA?
This isn’t the first time Putin and his allies have suggested dramatic claims about U.S. actions.
In a February 2024 interview with Carlson, Putin accused the CIA of secretly controlling the U.S. government, bypassing elected officials.
He also blamed the West for prolonging the war in Ukraine, framing it as a deliberate strategy to weaken Russia.
Lavrov’s Warning: Russia’s Stance on U.S. Involvement in Ukraine
Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, echoed Putin’s sentiments in a recent interview with Carlson.
He warned that U.S. support for Ukraine, particularly the provision of long-range missiles, marked a dangerous escalation.
“It’s obvious that the Ukrainians wouldn’t be able to do what they’re doing with modern weapons without direct U.S. involvement,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov also highlighted Russia’s recent use of a hypersonic missile, the Oreshnik, as a signal to the West.
“The message we wanted to send is clear: we are prepared to use all means to defend our legitimate interests,” he stated, warning that additional strikes could follow if Western powers failed to heed the message.
Russia’s Take on Trump
When asked about former U.S. President Donald Trump, Lavrov described him as “a strong person who wants results.”
However, he dismissed claims that Trump was pro-Russian, pointing out the significant sanctions Russia faced during his presidency.
Lavrov maintained that the Kremlin would observe Trump’s policies closely should he be re-elected, emphasizing, “The ball is on their side.”
What’s Next for U.S.-Russia Relations?
Carlson’s allegations and the subsequent Russian responses have added fuel to an already tense relationship between the two nations.
While the claims remain unverified, they highlight the deep distrust and high stakes involved in global geopolitics.
As both sides continue to trade accusations, the world watches closely, wondering what the next chapter in this fraught saga will bring.
