Kaizer Chiefs are on a mission to reinforce their squad with experienced players during the January transfer window.
With a focus on improving the team’s depth and quality, the club has already made significant moves, but it doesn’t seem like they’re finished yet.
New Signings Add Experience to the Squad
This week, Chiefs made their intentions clear by announcing the signings of three new players: forwards Glody Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris, and Thabo Cele.
These new additions bring a wealth of experience, helping to balance the squad after coach Nasreddine Nabi had leaned heavily on younger players in previous matches.
The club may even add one or two more players before the transfer deadline day.
Looking to Boost the Team with More Senior Players
While the youth players, like Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Samkelo Zwane, have stepped up and played crucial roles, the team’s performance against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns showed the gap in quality between the experienced national team players and the younger squad members.
After the 4-0 loss in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals, Nabi expressed his frustration, saying that the team desperately needs more seasoned players and leadership to support the younger talent.
Chiefs Exploring Potential Deadline Day Transfers
Following the loss, former Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised the efforts of the Chiefs’ young players but agreed that they can’t carry the team alone.
The club seems to have heard this message loud and clear, as they continue to strengthen their squad with experienced signings.
There’s even talk that Chiefs are eyeing Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns, which could be a deadline day move to watch.
Mohamed Husseini Could Be the Next Big Signing
In another twist, it’s been revealed that Nabi has also requested the club pursue Simba SC’s captain, Mohamed “Tshabalala” Husseini.
The Tanzanian national team player has been on the Chiefs’ radar for some time and could be a key addition to their squad.
However, the deal is reportedly complicated, and the club is still working on finalizing it.
Should Chiefs Sign Mohamed Husseini?
Husseini, who is known for his attacking style of play and has been nicknamed “Tshabalala” after the famous Bafana Bafana and Chiefs legend, could provide a much-needed boost in the left-back position.
Chiefs fans are eager to see if this deal goes through, so the question is: would you like to see Husseini join the squad? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
