The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has made significant changes in its parliamentary ranks after a few high-profile resignations from prominent party members.

These moves reflect the party’s ongoing efforts to stay effective and strong within Parliament.

Key Resignations Lead to Shuffling

The party recently saw the resignation of its former spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, who stepped down as a Member of Parliament.

Additionally, the position of Chief Whip, once held by EFF co-founder Floyd Shivambu, became vacant after his departure in August 2024 to join the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

New Faces in Leadership Positions

In response to these vacancies, the EFF has rearranged its Parliamentary caucus to fill these leadership gaps.

According to EFF spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys, the reshuffled team includes a mix of seasoned members with strong institutional knowledge, as well as fresh leadership from the youth and individuals committed to the party’s values.

Changes in the Parliamentary Whippery

The party has introduced several new faces in its parliamentary leadership:

  • Notando Nolutshungu, the newly-elected EFF chairperson, will now take on the role of Chief Whip.
  • Omphile Maotwe, the party’s treasurer-general, will serve in a senior position.
  • Former national chairperson Veronica Mente and other party members, including Natasha Ntlangwini, Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, Sam Matisse, and Mandisa Makesini (who will serve as the whip in the National Council of Provinces, or NCOP), will also take on significant responsibilities.

Shuffling in the National Assembly

The EFF also announced changes to its representation in the National Assembly:

  • Naledi Chirwa, who initially served in the NCOP at the start of the 7th administration, will now replace Mbuyiseni Ndlozi in Parliament.
  • Nqobile Mhlongo will take over from Ntokozo Hlonyane.
  • Chumani Matiwane will replace Yazini Tetyana.

Changes in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP)

There are also adjustments within the NCOP:

  • Mampuru Mampuru will replace Naledi Chirwa in the NCOP.
  • Asanda Matshobeni will take over from Nolubabalo Mcinga.
