Antiques Roadshow Surprises Arkansas Woman with Shockingly High Value of Her Late Mother’s Diamond Ring

Diamonds are often seen as a symbol of love and precious memories, and one guest on Antiques Roadshow was reminded of that in a big way when she learned the value of her late mother’s ring.

A Priceless Family Heirloom

During the most recent episode of the hit PBS show, filmed in Bentonville, Arkansas, a woman shared a heartfelt story about her mother’s 1950s diamond and platinum ring.

What began as a cherished family memento turned out to be much more valuable than anyone had ever expected.

The woman explained that the ring had a special place in her family’s history.

“My daddy bought this ring for my mom after she fell into the Arkansas River off of our houseboat,” she told appraiser Sarah Churgin, a specialist in fine jewelry and antiques.

Her mother, who couldn’t swim, fell into the river while the family was docked at the Island Harbor Marina in Pine Bluff.

“The undercurrent pulled her under, and she didn’t come back up,” the guest recalled.

“We were all panicking, and we thought she was drowning.”

After a desperate rescue effort involving her father and brothers, they managed to pull her mother to safety.

To express his gratitude for her safe return, the woman’s father sold the houseboat the following day and bought the beautiful ring for his wife.

The Ring’s Journey Through Time

The guest fondly remembered how her mother would often joke with her brothers when she wore the ring.

“Mama, you’re wearing our houseboat,” she would laugh.

The woman’s voice cracked with emotion as she continued, remembering how much the ring meant to her mother and how she had planned to pass it down to her daughter.

“My mom passed away about 20 years ago, and I’ve been wearing it ever

“A retail value today for this ring is in the range of $60,000 to $70,000,” she said.

The woman was in complete disbelief.

“Geez-o-Pete-o,” she exclaimed, laughing. “Oh wow.

I better get some insurance on it!”

A Moment to Remember

This emotional revelation on Antiques Roadshow was a reminder of how family heirlooms can hold not only sentimental value but also significant financial worth.

As the woman teared up with gratitude, it was clear that this ring, once a symbol of love and survival, had now become a tangible connection to her family’s rich history.
