Authorities have confirmed the discovery of the body of 46-year-old Cumali Turhan, who had been missing since November 18, 2024.

The search, which began in response to concerns for his welfare, culminated in the finding of his remains at a landfill site in Essex on January 11, 2025.

Nearly two months had passed since he was last heard from, and the extensive search spanned a vast 5,000-square-meter area.

Essex Police confirmed that the body found was indeed Mr. Turhan’s, and his family has been notified.

Continued Investigation Efforts

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe acknowledged the perseverance of the officers involved in the search, highlighting their dedication despite challenging conditions.

“Specialist officers have worked relentlessly for 45 days, enduring extreme weather to progress this difficult investigation,” Metcalfe remarked.

She also assured the public that Mr. Turhan’s family is receiving continued support from officers as they come to terms with this devastating news.

The investigation at the landfill is expected to last several more days.

Suspects on the Run

As the investigation into Mr. Turhan’s death continues, Essex Police are focusing on 38-year-old Ceyhan Dinler, who is believed to have fled the country via Stansted Airport on the same day Mr. Turhan was last in contact with anyone.

In addition, 44-year-old Ciprian Ilie was arrested on November 23, 2024, and charged with assisting an offender and preventing a lawful burial.

Ilie has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his trial is scheduled for September 2025.

Essex Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating Dinler or further advancing the investigation.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report it through the Essex Police website.

The investigation remains active as authorities work toward bringing justice to Mr. Turhan and his family.
