The Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) program is a prestigious academic and leadership initiative tailored for African secondary school students who are preparing for university education.
Designed to nurture the next generation of leaders on the continent, the program equips participants with vital academic skills, guidance for university admissions, and insight into various career paths.
Students also become part of a robust network of peers and mentors across Africa, providing invaluable connections for their future endeavors.
Summer 2025 Programs
For Summer 2025, YYAS is offering two exciting opportunities for aspiring leaders:
Online College Prep Workshop (17 – 22 July 2025)
This online workshop provides an enriching experience for students aiming to strengthen their academic abilities and get ready for university.
Residential Leadership Summit in Nairobi, Kenya (9 – 17 August 2025)
This in-person summit will take place on a host campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
It’s a chance for students to immerse themselves in leadership training and collaboration with other young leaders.
Both programs are offered free of charge, with no tuition fees.
However, students can only apply to one of the two programs—either the online workshop or the residential summit.
Travel Grants and Support
For those attending the residential summit in Nairobi, YYAS offers need-based travel grants for students from outside Kenya.
These grants are provided based on the information submitted in the application.
Students who do not qualify for a grant will need to make their own travel arrangements and cover the costs to and from Kenya.
