Wrestling fans and football lovers alike got a treat when former WWE world champion Sheamus, living out a childhood fantasy, took Manchester United legend Gary Neville to task—literally—on the “It’s Called Soccer” podcast.
Sheamus vs. Neville: A Playful Submission
The Irish wrestler, known for his high-energy performances in the WWE ring, had one goal in mind when he joined Neville on the show: getting the Red Devils icon to admit Liverpool will win the Premier League this season.
With a grin, Sheamus told Neville to lie down on the floor, jokingly declaring, “I’ve waited for this since I was 12!”
What followed was a wrestling masterclass, as Sheamus applied a signature move, the Clover Leaf submission, flipping Neville over and adding playful pressure to his back.
With host Rebecca Lowe laughing uncontrollably in the background, Neville resisted, shouting, “F*** Liverpool!” before finally giving in to Sheamus’s demands.
A Wrestling Career Full of Football Jabs
Sheamus, a WWE mainstay since his 2009 debut, has never shied away from mixing his love of football with his wrestling persona.
Back in 2018, during a WWE UK tour in Manchester, Sheamus and his tag-team partner Cesaro caused a stir by revealing Liverpool shirts under their trench coats and singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to a booing crowd.
Sheamus Reflects on a Potential Exit
At 46, Sheamus remains one of the most recognizable names in professional wrestling, but whispers about his potential departure from the ring have grown louder.
The Irish powerhouse hinted that this might be the year he steps away, leaving behind a legacy filled with memorable performances and plenty of laughs along the way.
For Neville, who spent his playing days thwarting Liverpool’s title hopes, it was a humbling moment, but one that undoubtedly added to the fun dynamic of the podcast.
And for Sheamus? A lifelong dream fulfilled, with plenty of laughs to boot.
