Jeremy Reaves, safety for the Washington Commanders, had a night to remember.
Not only did his team clinch a playoff spot with a dramatic 30-24 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons, but moments later, he got down on one knee and proposed to his longtime partner, Mikaela Worley, on the field at Northwest Stadium.
She said yes, turning an already emotional evening into a celebration of love and triumph.
A Love Story Rooted in Friendship
Reaves and Worley’s story goes back to their high school days in Pensacola, Florida.
Childhood friends from Milton High School, their bond grew stronger over the years.
Reaves described Worley as his best friend, saying, “She’s been my rock since high school.”
Their relationship blossomed, leading to this unforgettable moment after 18 months of dating.
Overcoming Challenges Together
The proposal was a testament to their shared journey through highs and lows.
In 2023, Reaves endured a challenging season, requiring ACL surgery in October.
Throughout his recovery, Worley stood by his side, offering unwavering support.
Reflecting on her role during his struggles, Reaves said, “When I was at my lowest, she was there to pick me up every day.
You can tell a lot about someone in those moments, and she showed up for me.”
Mikaela Worley’s Own Story
Worley, 26, shares a strong connection with Reaves beyond their high school friendship.
A former volleyball player at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, where she majored in biology, Worley now works as a physician assistant.
Athleticism runs in her family, with her mother having played volleyball and her father playing football at Livingston University.
A Proposal Hinged on Victory
Reaves admitted he planned to wait if the Commanders hadn’t secured the win.
“I hate losing,” he confessed.
“If we lost, there was no way I could propose in the right spirit.
But this win felt like destiny. She’s earned this moment as much as I have.”
Looking Ahead
The Commanders’ playoff spot marks their first postseason appearance since 2020, capping a remarkable turnaround from a difficult 2023 season.
The team’s regular season wraps up with a game against the Dallas Cowboys on January 5 before their playoff journey begins the following weekend.
As Reaves and the Commanders prepare for the next challenge, the couple has already started a new chapter, celebrating love, resilience, and the promise of brighter days ahead.
