Carlsen revealed he had a candid conversation with FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich and the tournament’s main sponsor, Timur Turlov.

“It felt like we could have some fruitful discussions.

At the end of the day, I decided to play.

Plus, I love blitz chess—it’s for the fans,” he said.

“Who knows, it could be the last time.”
