It’s hard to believe that it’s been 13 years since Adam Gillen first graced our screens as Liam Conroy in the beloved ITV sitcom Benidorm.
Fans of the show will remember him as the clumsy holidaymaker who arrived at the Solana Hotel to visit his father, played by Tim Healy.
Since then, Adam has undergone quite the transformation, leaving his fresh-faced character behind for a bold new look.
A Fresh Look: No More Ginger Hair
Gone are the days of Adam’s signature ginger hair and clean-shaven face.
These days, he’s sporting a bushy beard and bleached hair, completely unrecognizable from the character who first made waves in the show’s early seasons.
It’s clear that Adam has embraced a more modern style, which is a far cry from his days as Liam Conroy.
From Holidaymaker to Maintenance Worker
Liam Conroy’s character started as a holidaymaker visiting his dad, who worked at the Solana Hotel.
But as the series progressed, Liam’s role expanded, and by series five, he was working as a maintenance worker at the hotel.
In the series finale, Liam’s journey took him in a new direction when he left the Solana to pursue a career with Kenneth Du Beke at the Blow ‘n’ Go Salon.
Life After Benidorm: A New Chapter with Laila Zaidi
Today, Adam is leading a quieter life outside the spotlight, focusing on his personal life.
He’s been spotted looking slimmer and sporting trendy outfits, as he enjoys spending time with his dog and partner, Laila Zaidi.
Laila, who joined Benidorm in the final series as Rob’s girlfriend Cyd, found love off-screen as well.
The two met on set in 2018 and have been dating ever since.
Adam often shares moments from their relationship on social media, including outings, dog walks, and even New Year’s Eve celebrations.
It’s clear that they’re going strong, and fans can’t get enough of their sweet posts.
Liam’s Unlucky Fate Lives On
Even though Adam has left Benidorm behind, his character’s bad luck seems to have followed him.
In a recent Instagram post, Adam shared a photo that captured the same unfortunate fate that Liam was known for.
Looking downcast, Adam stared at his melting ice cream as it dripped down his hand.
Fans were quick to notice the resemblance to his on-screen character, with one commenting, “Lol, why do you look sad eating ice cream? Did someone steal it?”
Another fan shared, “Just watching reruns of Benidorm. Best characters are yourself and Kenneth.”
It seems that while Adam may have shed his old look, some things—like his humor and the love of his fans—are here to stay.
