Ben Stokes’ hamstring injury has taken a serious turn, requiring surgery to repair the tear in his left hamstring.
This comes after a recent appointment with a specialist, confirming the extent of the damage.
At 33 years old, the England Test captain will undergo the procedure in January.
A Challenging Road Ahead
Stokes, who had scans done after his visit to a Leeds consultant, learned that he had torn his left hamstring.
The injury occurred during the third Test in Hamilton, part of England’s victorious series against New Zealand.
As a result, he will miss several key upcoming events, including the limited-overs tour of India in January and the Champions Trophy in February and March.
The good news is that he won’t be sidelined for too long—three months at most.
While this keeps him out of some major tournaments, it doesn’t rule him out of any Test matches.
England’s cricket board has confirmed that Stokes will be out of action for at least three months, but he could return in time for summer Test cricket.
Returning to the Field
After recovering from surgery, Stokes is expected to be fully fit for England’s next Test match in late May against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.
Following that, he will be part of a busy schedule, which includes a five-match home series against India and a much-anticipated Ashes campaign abroad in 2025.
Despite facing setbacks with his hamstring injury—having initially sustained it during a Hundred match in Manchester, and then again in Hamilton—Stokes is determined to return to his role as an all-rounder.
He remains committed to being in top shape for those crucial upcoming series, not letting this injury hold him back.
What’s Next?
With surgery in January, the recovery timeline is clear, and Stokes will be focusing on his rehabilitation.
This will give him time to fully recover and be ready for England’s summer international fixtures.
Though it’s a tough blow for him and for England’s cricket plans, there’s optimism that he’ll return stronger and ready to lead his team.
