A young British climber tragically lost his life after falling from a mountain in Spain.
The 20-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, fell while exploring the area known as Puente del Mono, or Monkey Bridge, near the village of El Chorro, close to Malaga.
The fall occurred on Wednesday, and by the time emergency responders arrived by helicopter, he had already lost consciousness and gone into cardiac arrest.
Emergency Response Efforts
Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, attempting to save the climber.
The team from the Guardia Civil, assisted by a helicopter from Granada, worked to winch the man from the rocky surface.
Despite performing CPR and rushing him by helicopter to a nearby heliport where medical professionals were waiting, he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.
The alarm was raised around 11 am, and it is believed that the climber was on a protected route known as a via ferrata, where climbers can secure themselves to a metal rail bolted into the mountain.
This area is part of the famous Caminito del Rey path, which is well-known for its breathtaking views and challenging climbs.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
It is unclear whether the climber was a tourist or a resident of Spain.
A post-mortem will be conducted, and a magistrate is overseeing the investigation into the circumstances of the tragic fall.
Another British Climber’s Death
This incident follows another heartbreaking event in Spain earlier this year.
A British influencer, aged 26, tragically died after falling from the Castilla-La Mancha bridge, Spain’s highest, in Talavera de la Reina.
The influencer was reportedly climbing the 630-foot-high bridge for a social media stunt when he fell.
His actions were considered dangerous, as access to the bridge is strictly prohibited.
