Siphelele Mthembu, a former striker for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, recently shared his thoughts on the team’s performance under different coaches.

In a recent interview with iDiski Times, Mthembu suggested that Kaizer Chiefs seem to perform better with foreign white coaches.

This statement comes in the wake of the team’s 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants, which marked their first win in the Betway Premiership season.

Mthembu’s Insights

The 37-year-old former player, who was part of the Chiefs squad that last won a trophy in 2015, expressed his belief that the team is set to thrive under their current coach, Nasreddine Nabi.

Mthembu emphasized that, based on his observations, Kaizer Chiefs often achieve better results with coaches from outside South Africa.

He added, “I’m not being racist, but they always seem to do better with a white coach. I don’t know why this is the case.”

Coaching Changes and Success

Nabi, who took over as head coach in July, has already made a notable impact by signing seven new players, some of whom played in the recent match.

Mthembu, who has experienced coaching under Stuart Baxter and Ruud Krol—both of whom won league titles with the club—highlighted that the most successful coaches for the team in the PSL era have been non-South Africans.

This includes notable figures like Baxter, the late Ted Dumitru, and Muhsin Ertugral.

Current Coaching Landscape

As Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are both currently managed by foreign coaches, the discussion around coaching effectiveness continues.

Mthembu’s comments reflect a broader conversation about coaching dynamics and their impact on team performance.
