In a recent shift within South Africa’s political landscape, former Johannesburg council speaker Colleen Makhubele has announced her new alignment with the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

Makhubele, who was previously with the Congress of the People (COPE) and later founded the South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA), revealed that her decision to join MK was guided by what she believes is divine intervention.

Colleen Makhubele’s Statement on Joining the MK Party

In a heartfelt message shared on X, Makhubele expressed her belief that joining the MK Party was part of a higher plan.

She described her transition as a journey of self-discovery and growth.

“It was God’s will that I should come to the MK Party to experience the depth of love and realign my values.

I’ve come to understand myself better—neither a saint nor a devil, just a vessel of capabilities in God’s hands,” she wrote.

She concluded with a call for prayers for the country, the MK Party, and Jacob Zuma, affectionately referred to as “uBaba.”

Bongani Baloyi’s Shift to the MK Party

In a related development, Bongani Baloyi, the former ActionSA leader in Gauteng, has also joined the MK Party.

Baloyi made his announcement at a briefing held in Soweto on September 5th.

During this event, he disclosed plans to deregister his own political party, Xiluva, and encouraged its members to align with the MK Party.

Baloyi’s move adds to the list of notable politicians who have recently joined the MK Party, including former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu, Colleen Makhubele, and Mzwanele Manyi.

Recent Developments in the MK Party

The MK Party has also welcomed several high-profile figures from state-owned entities.

Brian Molefe, Siyabonga Gama, and Lucky Montana, who are facing corruption charges related to State Capture, have been inducted as MK Party members of Parliament.

This influx of prominent political figures suggests that the MK Party is positioning itself as a significant player in South Africa’s political arena.

As these developments unfold, it will be interesting to see how the MK Party’s new members will influence its direction and impact the broader political landscape.
