After being released by Manchester United at the end of last season, Anthony Martial is now weighing his next steps.
The 28-year-old French forward, once one of football’s most promising talents, is still without a club.
While he remains a free agent and can sign with a team outside of the regular transfer windows, several clubs have shown interest in acquiring his services.
Brazil Calling: Flamengo’s Interest
Recently, reports have surfaced that Brazilian club Flamengo has reached out to Martial following an injury to their star forward, Pedro, who suffered an ACL injury during a Brazil training session.
Although Flamengo’s approach could provide Martial with an exciting opportunity in South America, the player appears to be taking his time to consider all his options.
Record-Breaking Offer from AEK Athens
In addition to Flamengo, Greek side AEK Athens is also keen on signing the forward.
According to reports from Greek outlet SPORT24, AEK has made Martial the most lucrative contract offer in the club’s history.
This offer would exceed the current deal held by former Tottenham player Erik Lamela, who earns around €2 million per year.
Despite this tempting offer, it’s expected that Martial would still take a significant pay cut compared to his previous £250,000-a-week salary at Manchester United.
However, a move to AEK Athens could provide him with the opportunity to revive his career in Europe.
A Look Back at Martial’s Time at United
Martial joined Manchester United from Monaco in 2015 for a fee that could have risen to £58 million with add-ons.
He made an instant impact, scoring 17 goals in his debut season.
However, his time at Old Trafford was marked by inconsistency and injuries, preventing him from fully living up to his early promise.
His best season with United came in 2019-20 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, where he found the back of the net 23 times.
But despite that success, he struggled to maintain his form in subsequent seasons.
During his time at Manchester United, Martial made 317 appearances and scored 90 goals.
He also had a loan spell at Sevilla in the 2021-22 season and earned 30 caps for the French national team.
What Lies Ahead?
As Martial considers his future, the question remains: where will he choose to continue his career?
With offers from both Europe and South America on the table, the next chapter of his journey promises to be an intriguing one.
Whether he opts for a new challenge in Brazil or a fresh start in Greece, fans will be eager to see if he can recapture the form that once made him one of the brightest prospects in football.
