Rulani Mokwena, the head coach of Wydad Casablanca, has recently welcomed Sinethemba Badela, his former colleague from Mamelodi Sundowns, to the Moroccan club.

This move comes after Mokwena’s surprising departure from Sundowns to join Wydad on a three-year deal just last week.

Mokwena’s move also prompted resignations from some of his technical team members at Sundowns, including Badela, who previously coached the DDC side.

There’s also uncertainty surrounding the future of assistant coach Michael Loftman.

Speaking on SABC Radio 2000 Sports Show Game On, Mokwena confirmed Badela’s arrival at Wydad and expressed optimism about Loftman joining him soon.

Settling In at Wydad Casablanca

“I am already at the office, and Coach Themba Badela is here as well,” Mokwena shared with the radio station.

“We’re busy sorting out the squad and training facilities.

There’s a lot to do here. It’s a massive club; just a few months ago, they were winning the Champions League.

It’s like waking a sleeping giant, and fortunately, this giant hasn’t been asleep for long.”

However, Mokwena admitted challenges in finalizing his new technical team at the Moroccan giants.

“It’s been tough because I’ve accepted a project that not everyone understands,” he explained.

“I don’t want to bring people in just for the sake of it.

I’m looking for competent individuals who are ready for the challenge.”

Michael Loftman’s Sabbatical

Regarding Loftman, Mokwena clarified, “Michael and I had discussed taking a sabbatical even before Wydad approached us or we left Sundowns.

He needs time to recover mentally and physically, especially after what happened at our previous club.”

Future Prospects

While uncertainties remain, Mokwena remains hopeful about shaping his team at Wydad Casablanca, aiming to build a strong foundation for future successes.

Conclusion

The transition to Wydad Casablanca marks a new chapter for Rulani Mokwena and his team, with Sinethemba Badela’s arrival signaling the beginning of a fresh journey in Moroccan football.
