Visitors were in for a heart-stopping moment when a crocodile attempted to scale a fence at the sanctuary, which houses around 600 crocodiles and alligators.
A ranger was feeding the creatures chunks of meat when the daring escape attempt occurred.
He quickly warned everyone to be ready to flee.
Tour guide Owen Douglas explained that it’s not unusual for crocodiles to try climbing the fences, especially since the park’s crocs can be extremely aggressive.
“It’s somewhat common at the park,” he said, dismissing concerns for safety. “We’re all really well trained out there; we know what we’re doing.”
Safety Measures in Place
Douglas assured that both visitors and staff are well-protected.
Despite the excitement, he joked, “I’m sure the tourists are secretly hoping one of the tour guide’s arms gets taken off, but unfortunately for them, it won’t happen.”
A Haven for Problem Crocs
The park is a refuge for “problem crocs,” crocodiles considered a risk to public safety.
Some of these crocs are as large as four meters in length.
According to Douglas, while these creatures would ideally be in the wild, the park saves them from being killed, providing them with a safe place to live.
