Man Injured in Downtown Shooting Found with Gun, Narcotics

At 2:10p.m., multiple 911 callers reported a shooting at 3^rd Avenue and Pike Street. Police responded and found a man with a gunshot wound to the hip. As officers began first aid on the victim, they discovered he was carrying a handgun and a waist pack containing narcotics. Officers transferred care to Seattle Fire Department Medics, who transported the 31-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center.

According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, the victim and suspect were in an altercation that escalated to the shooting. It also appears that an associate of the victim may have exchanged fire with the suspect. Officers recovered and documented ballistic evidence at the scene, including damage to a Metro bus.

Police seized the victim’s handgun since he is a convicted felon and is not permitted to carry a firearm, and entered the narcotics – approximately 14 grams of heroin, 3 grams of methamphetamine, and 82 fentanyl pills – into evidence.

Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit will continue to investigate this incident.
