Kentucky Mom Faces Additional Surgery Following Sepsis Complications
Cindy Mullins, a 41-year-old mother from Kentucky, who tragically lost all her limbs to septic shock after a routine kidney stone removal surgery, is scheduled for another procedure at the University of Kentucky hospital on February 7.
Challenges and Adaptation After Initial Surgery
In December, Cindy underwent a kidney stone removal surgery, but complications led to septic shock, resulting in the amputation of both her legs and arms.
Since then, her family has been providing updates on her progress as she adapts to her new life.
Positive Outlook Amidst Ordeal
Despite the harrowing turn of events, Cindy has displayed overwhelming positivity throughout her rehabilitation.
She has learned to drive a mobility scooter with her head, adopted techniques like ‘booty scoot,’ and mastered sitting upright by herself.
Upcoming Surgery and Call for Support
Now, Cindy is gearing up for another surgery on February 7, where her lower arms are set to be amputated.
In a heartfelt message, she has requested support and prayers from well-wishers as she faces this challenging phase.
Fundraising Efforts to Cover Medical Costs
A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover Cindy’s medical costs, raising over $287,000 to date.
The funds are crucial for her ongoing medical needs, home adjustments, prosthetics, and adaptive equipment.
Cindy’s Journey to Recovery
Cindy woke up from sedation in late December to the shocking news that all four limbs had been amputated to save her life.
Despite the challenges, she emphasizes that her story is not a sad one; rather, it carries a happy ending. She expresses gratitude for being alive and able to be with her husband and two children.
Daily Life and Adjustments
Daily life for Cindy now involves a two-hour process each morning, where her husband DJ dresses and wraps her recovering wounds to prevent infection.
Cindy remains determined to return to her job as a certified medical assistant and is focused on her recovery and independence.
Community Support and Well-Wishes
Friends and family have rallied around Cindy, describing her spirit as remarkable. The outpouring of support, including hospital visits and more than 40 well-wishers at once, has touched Cindy deeply.
The GoFundMe campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden on Cindy and her family as they navigate this challenging journey.
