Vice President Shettima Defends Federal Government’s Decision Amidst Relocation Criticism
Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has strongly criticized those expressing disapproval of the federal government’s decision to relocate specific departments and units of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos.
The vice president, speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Awards in Maiduguri, Borno state, emphasized that the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would prioritize policies for the benefit of all Nigerians, rejecting any sectional bias.
Message to Critics: Shettima Labels Opponents as Mischief Makers
Vice President Shettima, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, delivered a clear message to critics during the memorial event themed “Creating Pathways for Peace: Tackling Banditry and Insurgency through Good Governance for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
He labeled those opposing the relocation process as mischief makers and assured the Northern region that President Tinubu’s agenda aimed at national development would not compromise the interests of any specific geographical location.
Event Aligns with Tinubu’s Vision: Collective Effort for Solutions
The event, in line with President Tinubu’s vision, brought together key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, to collaboratively address challenges and devise effective solutions to insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, poverty, and corruption in the region and the nation at large.
The gathering emphasized the need for collective efforts to chart a new course towards sustainable development.
Reassurance on Relocation: Shettima Stresses National Interest
Addressing recent opposition to the relocation plan of CBN and FAAN units, Vice President Shettima reaffirmed that the move was in the interest of the entire nation.
He highlighted that President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ was committed to policies that transcend sectional interests, and urged critics to refrain from acting as mischief makers, signaling a strong defense of the federal government’s decision.
