Transfer Window Ambitions for South African Clubs
As the January transfer window opens, South African football clubs are actively seeking reinforcements to address key areas before resuming the second round of the 2023/24 season.
Black Leopards’ Ascent in the Second Tier
Black Leopards, currently positioned ninth on the table with 23 points after 17 matches, are making strategic moves to boost their squad.
They have their eyes set on the DStv Premiership, with a seven-point gap to log leaders Orbit College, who have dominated the first round of their maiden season in the second tier.
13 Matches to Realize Promotion Goal
Under the guidance of coach Solly Luvhengo, Black Leopards have 13 matches remaining to turn the tide and fulfill their objective of securing promotion to the top-flight league.
Mxolisi Mkhonto’s Impending Move
According to reliable sources, Black Leopards are on the verge of signing Eswatini’s highly-rated midfielder, Mxolisi Mkhonto.
The Eswatini international has reportedly arrived in South Africa to finalize the deal with Black Leopards, owned by David Thidiela.
Coach’s Recommendation and Past Collaboration
Mkhonto’s potential move is said to be facilitated by coach Solly Luvhengo, who previously worked with the midfielder at Eswatini’s Mbabane Highlanders.
The coach’s recommendation has given the green light to bring Mkhonto on board, filling the club’s available foreign player slot.
Mkhonto’s Impact at Green Mamba FC
Currently playing for Green Mamba FC, Mkhonto played a pivotal role in securing the Eswatini MTN Premier League title for his team last season.
As his current team leads the standings, they aim to defend their championship.
Transfer History and FIFA Ban Impact
Notably, Mkhonto explored a potential move to Royal AM during the pre-season, but a FIFA transfer ban prevented the deal from materializing.
Despite this setback, Mkhonto is now set for a fresh start with Black Leopards, keeping alive the hope of a breakthrough in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Continued Eswatini Midfielder’s PSL Aspirations
As Mkhonto inches closer to joining Black Leopards, the 30-year-old midfielder remains optimistic about his prospects in the PSL, anticipating a significant career move that could mark a breakthrough in his football journey.
