NSCDC arrests 25-yr-old son for stabbing his father to death in Kano

In a distressing turn of events, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State apprehended a 25-year-old man, Alkasim Ya’u, on charges of fatally stabbing his father.

The incident transpired in the Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of Gwale Local Government Area, leaving the community in shock and grief.

Details of the Incident

NSCDC Corps Commandant, Mohammed Falala, provided details of the tragic incident in a telephone interview conducted in Kano on Sunday.

According to Falala, the unfortunate incident occurred on Friday around 1330 hours at the residence of Alhaji Salisu Bala.

Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, the deceased father, had brought his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau for medical treatment, with an appointment scheduled for Saturday, January 6.

Deviation from Plans

Contrary to the original plan of returning to Katsina after seeking medical attention, the deceased father chose to spend the night at his brother’s house at the same address.

Investigations revealed that Alkasim’s mental health deterioration was linked to his involvement in substance abuse. Upon arriving at Tudun Yola, the mentally ill son reportedly attacked his father with a sharp object.

NSCDC Intervention

NSCDC operatives stationed in the area swiftly intervened, rushing the victim to a hospital for medical attention. Simultaneously, they apprehended the suspect, Alkasim Ya’u, at the scene of the crime.

The commandant emphasized that the family was making arrangements to transport the deceased’s body back to Katsina for burial.

Meanwhile, the suspect and relevant evidence were handed over to the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for further investigation.
