The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), in Abuja Nigeria’s capital has revealed a plan to hold an emergency coordination meeting on fire prevention on Wednesday 20th December 2021 as part of measures to tackle incessant market fires in the Federal Capital Territory.

The information which was contained in a statement signed by the Head Public Relations Unit of the Agency, Nkechi Isa, the Director-General of the agency, Abbas Idriss said the meeting would involve 10 key stakeholders.

Idriss hinted that, FEMA has already identified markets prone to fire and would soon commence strict surveillance and the deployment of fire defence equipment to markets to try to prevent fire.

“Fire inspectors would be sent to markets to ensure compliance with, what we are going to give them, we don’t want to loose lives,“ he added.

While appealing to FCT residents to only connect power through Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), he lamented that most people keep gas cylinders inside their homes, describing the act as dangerous.
