INEC Rejects Reports of BVAS Reconfiguration for Kogi State Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has vehemently denied reports suggesting that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is being reconfigured inside the Kogi State government house for the upcoming governorship election on November 11.
Fake News Allegations
INEC has labeled the reports, which are being circulated by the Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as false and baseless.
The SDP claimed that three electoral officials were present at the state Government House, allegedly reconfiguring BVAS to favor a specific candidate.
INEC’s Response
Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, released a statement in Abuja to counter these claims.
He stressed that the report is entirely untrue. Oyekanmi clarified that the three individuals mentioned in the SDP’s report are not presently in Kogi State, and one of them is no longer employed by the commission.
Inaccurate Claims
Oyekanmi stated, “The three persons mentioned are not associated with the configuration of the BVAS machines and not even in Kogi State at the moment.
Mr. Nicholas Ocholi is on his duty post in our Ondo State office in Akure. Ibrahim Egbunu is attending to a very close family member hospitalized in Abuja. Mohammed Adara retired last year and is no longer a staff of the Commission.”
Professional BVAS Configuration
The INEC spokesperson further clarified that the configuration of BVAS machines is conducted simultaneously and exclusively in the commission’s offices in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
These processes are professionally and strictly handled by teams deployed from the national headquarters in Abuja.
Public Disregard and Political Parties’ Responsibility
INEC called on the public to disregard the story as fake news and simultaneously urged political parties to refrain from engaging in malicious rumor-spreading of this nature.
