IPOB’s Stern Warning to Ohanaeze Ndigbo
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, cautioning them not to obstruct the Biafra independence movement.
This warning comes in response to remarks made by Ohanaeze chieftain, Barrister Augustine Amaechi, who opposed the idea of a Biafra referendum.
Ohanaeze’s Restructuring Stance Challenged
Barrister Augustine Amaechi, representing Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expressed the organization’s preference for restructuring over a referendum, contradicting IPOB’s stance.
This divergence in opinion has intensified tensions between the two groups.
IPOB’s Unwavering Commitment to the Biafra Referendum
IPOB remains resolute in its call for a Biafra referendum, maintaining that this is the only acceptable path forward.
The group dismisses those who oppose the referendum as “political jobbers.”
Threat to Ohanaeze’s Position
IPOB’s spokesperson, known as Powerful, has urged Ohanaeze to publicly disassociate itself from Amaechi’s statements. Failure to do so could lead IPOB to consider Ohanaeze Ndigbo as an adversary of the Biafra independence movement.
The Stakes and Implications
The clash between IPOB and Ohanaeze Ndigbo underscores the complex dynamics and deep-seated divisions within the Igbo community regarding the path to self-determination.
It also raises questions about the future of the Biafra referendum and the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
