Brian Laundrie’s Disturbing Texts
Brian Laundrie sent heartless text messages to a friend shortly after strangling his fiancée, Gabby Petito, during their cross-country road trip. Petito, 22, disappeared in June 2021 while traveling with Laundrie. He, 23, killed her around August 28 in Wyoming and later took his own life. Petito’s remains were found on September 19. However, on September 4, Laundrie exchanged texts with a friend named Ben, pretending that everything was fine.
Deceptive Messages
In the text messages, Laundrie appeared nonchalant about the trip, stating, “Trip was good. Gab and I had fun. Tired now, gonna sleep for a week.” He even mentioned their YouTube travel channel and the content they created together, without indicating any issues.
Gabby Petito’s Tragic End
Gabby Petito had been traveling with Laundrie in a white van during the summer, documenting their journey. Laundrie returned to Florida without her on September 1, and her family reported her missing on September 11. Laundrie was named a person of interest in her disappearance, and her strangled body was found in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park shortly after. Laundrie was later found dead in a Florida park.
Moab Altercation and Lawsuit
Before her death, the couple had a physical altercation in Moab, Utah, which led to police involvement but no charges. Petito’s parents filed a $50 million lawsuit against the Moab City Police Department, alleging negligence for not arresting Laundrie after finding Petito injured and distressed.
Mother’s Disturbing Letter
Laundrie’s mother wrote a troubling letter promising to help her son escape from jail and bury a body. This letter raised suspicions of her involvement in covering up Gabby’s murder, and Gabby’s parents are suing the Laundries, claiming they knew about the killing.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Depositions for the case began recently, and a jury trial is scheduled for May 2024. The lawsuit alleges that the Laundries’ silence caused emotional harm to Gabby’s parents, who seek undisclosed damages.
