Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
Afreximbank’s internship program is open to students who meet the following criteria:
- Academic Requirements: Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programs at recognized institutions are preferred. The program especially seeks candidates studying economics, business administration, finance, accounting, social sciences, statistics, law, sciences, engineering, or related fields.
- Nationality: The internship is open to nationals of Afreximbank member states, students of African descent in the diaspora, and non-African students with a vision for Africa’s transformation.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English or French is required, and knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is a plus.
- Age Limit: Applicants must be between 20 and 32 years old in the year they apply for the internship.
- Exclusions: Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible to apply.
Internship Benefits
While interns are responsible for covering their own living expenses (such as accommodation, meals, transport, and medical insurance), Afreximbank provides several benefits to make the experience more manageable:
- Travel Costs: The bank covers reasonable return travel costs to the internship location, following its travel policy.
- Monthly Stipend and Housing Allowance: Interns receive a tax-free stipend of USD 1000 and a housing allowance of USD 500 per month.
- Accommodation: Afreximbank arranges one week of accommodation in a hotel with breakfast provided during the induction period.
- Visa and Transportation: The bank covers the necessary residence visa (if required) and provides transport between the internship location and accommodation.
