Nigeria’s House of Representatives has confirmed that it is intensifying it’s series of engagement with critical stakeholders, in a bid to effectively tackle the menace of fake news & quackery in the Media industry.

 
Chairman of the House committee on information & national orientation, Mr.

Odebumi Olusegun, made the confirmation on wednesday during the 2022 budget defence session of Voice of Nigeria, News Agency of Nigeria, & the Nigerian Press Council.

 
According to Mr.

Odebumi, the Lawmakers are worried that publicly owned Media organisations are not funded substantially as to enable them execute their constitutional mandate.

 
The House Information Chairman was speaking in response to the submission made by Nigerian Press Council, requesting for a new Legislation to regulate activities of members of the press.

 
Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Mr.

Osita Okechukwu while defending the corporation’s budget, urged the Legislators to help public media Agencies to effectively migrate to the digital world & sustain the standard of satisfiying the global audience.

 
Voice of Nigeria’s 2022 budget proposal has been pegged at =N=3,603,931,259.

00, which comprises of =N=690,337,877, for capital expenditure, while =N=564,149,066, is earmarked as overhead, & the Personnel cost is put at =N=2,349,444,316.
