World Rugby has announced that it is trialling a new system for reviewing contentious on-field incidents in rugby.
The so-called television match official (TMO) bunker system is being tested in this season’s Super Rugby Pacific tournament and will be extended to the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in South Africa this summer.
The trial will be extended to the Test arena ahead of the World Cup in France later this year if it is successful and has the support of match officials, players, unions, and competitions.
The new system aims to reduce the number of on-field replays of incidents and to speed up the game.

He was yellow-carded after he tackled Sale flanker Tom Curry during the second half of Bristol’s 36-20 loss.
