76-Year-Old Texas Woman Hospitalized After Vicious Pit Bull Attack in Her Own Front Yard in Houston

76-Year-Old Texas Woman Hospitalized After Vicious Pit Bull Attack in Her Own Front Yard in Houston

A Texas woman was left seriously injured after being attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull in a shocking incident that occurred in her own front yard.

Yvonne Randle, 76, was walking into her yard on Southbridge Road in Houston when two dogs suddenly charged at her from across the street.

Surveillance footage captured the terrifying moment, showing the elderly woman retreating in panic as the dogs closed in on her.

Dog Knocks Woman to the Ground and Attacks Her Face

As Randle backed away from the dogs, she said one of them lunged at her and knocked her to the ground.

Desperate to defend herself, she tried to find something she could use as a weapon, like a brick from the flower bed.

But before she could grab anything, the pit bull pounced.

“He knocked me down,” Randle recalled, speaking with ABC13. “Then, he started gnawing on my chin.”

The dog’s attack quickly escalated as it tried to bite her throat, and Randle feared for her life.

“I thought, ‘Oh my god. This dog is gonna kill me,'” she said.

Pit Bull Breaks Woman’s Thumb During Frantic Struggle

In the midst of the chaos, Randle threw her hands up to protect herself, but the dog bit into one of her hands, breaking her thumb.

Her screams of terror eventually alerted her son, who lives next door, and the dog’s owners. “She couldn’t catch her breath.

She couldn’t really talk at that moment,” Damien, Randle’s son, described the horrifying scene.

The surveillance video showed the frantic owners rushing to the scene to capture the aggressive dog, with one even losing both of their shoes in the process.

Dog Owners Cited for Negligence After Attack

The dog’s owners, who claimed the pit bull somehow escaped from their backyard, were cited by Houston police for not properly securing the animal, failing to vaccinate it, and not having a dog license.

The following day, after much discussion, the owners surrendered the pit bull to authorities.

The dog was then placed in quarantine at the city’s municipal animal shelter, BARC.

Randle Recovers at Home, but Her Face and Thumb Are Left Scarred

Though Randle has since been released from the hospital, the physical and emotional scars of the attack remain.

Her thumb is in a cast, and her face is left with permanent damage.

Her son, Damien, reflected on the horrifying situation, saying, “If nobody was out here and if I didn’t hear her from in there, it could have been a very, very, very different day.”

Another Dog Attack Claims Life of a Woman in Houston

Just days before this attack, another tragic incident occurred in northeast Houston when a 65-year-old woman was killed by three dogs that broke through a fence and attacked her in her backyard.

Authorities have not released the woman’s name, and an investigation into the deadly attack is ongoing.
