60 Teachers Participate In Education Intervention Programme In Awka

Education intervention programme  for sixty teachers in Anambra State has ended at the Jerome Udorji State Secretariat, Awka, with a call on participants to expand their knowledge and use of ICTs in teaching.

 

The event, sponsored by interested firms, featured train in of ten teachers from six secondary schools in the State, as well as donation of education materials such as computer sets and accessories, text and exercise books, laboratory equipment’s and white boards.

Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha, reports that the schools are Boys Secondary School, Oraifite, Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, Cave City Secondary School, Ogbunike, Community Secondary School, Nnobi, State Model School, Iyiagu, Awka, and Community Secondary School, Ekwulummili.

 

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, recalled that embracing ICT helped education in the State to thrive when COVID-19 led to shutdown of schools nationwide, due to commitment of the Obiano administration.

 

Professor Omenugha noted that though technology cannot replace teachers, teachers with ICT knowledge will surely replace others without ICT knowledge, charging participants at the event to put all they have garnered to use, even as she commended the sponsors for appreciating and keying into the Obiano administration’s vision in education sector.

Participants at the event, including the Principal of Community Secondary School, Ekwulummili, Mrs Anastacia Emecheta and her Community Secondary School, Nnobi counterpart, Mrs Joy Okoye, thanked the Education Commissioner for encouraging Anambra school teachers with words and actions, and the sponsors of the event for their efforts in the education sector.

 

Handover of the education materials to benefiting school formed the highpoint of the event.
