20-year-old spear fisherman retrieved from Bondi Beach struggling for life

A spear fisherman has died at Bondi Beach after being hauled unconscious from the water.

On Thursday about 4:00 p.m., the man ran into problems at the popular swimming spot.

His pals attempted CPR on the North Bondi rocks before lifesavers transported him to the beach via jet ski and resumed their efforts to recover him.Five other people who had been spear fishing with the man were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the sceneThe man was found unconscious and was pulled to the out of the water and onto the rocks before his friends attempted CPR
He was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, but it was too late to save him.
The medical team of the Toll Ambulance Helicopter landed on the sand and treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to St. Vincent’s Hospital via ambulance in a severe condition.

 

Five others who had been spearfishing with the man were evaluated by paramedics from NSW Ambulance at the scene.

 

Inspector Giles Buchanan of the NSW Ambulance Service stated, “This was an extremely distressing situation for this man’s friends, and we praise their fast response in attempting to assist him.”
