A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly running over a police officer with a car in a terrifying incident in Cheadle.

The event unfolded late Saturday night in a retail park on Wilmslow Road, Greater Manchester.

The Incident

The police officer, a woman, was responding to reports of suspicious activity inside a vehicle when the driver suddenly sped toward her.

As she walked up to the car, the driver aggressively struck her with the vehicle.

Chief Inspector John Picton, from the Stockport district, described the incident as “truly shocking” and stressed that there’s absolutely no reason for the attack to have escalated the way it did.

He condemned the assault, emphasizing that such violence against police officers is “completely unacceptable” and will not be tolerated.

Picton continued, saying, “Our officers go out every day to serve our communities and face difficult situations.

It’s appalling that one of our own was harmed in this way.”
